Patrick is the third youngest of 9 kids. He has 5 brothers and 3 sisters. He has the largest family on the ATP tour. When Patrick isn't on the court he enjoys playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his girlfriend, Lara Feltham, an Australian swimwear model. He gets around Pembroke on a Moped, unlike most tennis players who drive sports cars. Pat's also known for his generosity. Both this year and last year he donated $300 000 of his U.S. Open purse to helping sick children.
Patrick started playing tennis when he was only 5 years old. He and his older brother Geoff were so into playing that after Pat finished high school, they traveled all over Europe to compete in tournaments. After a while, Geoff noticed that Pat had a flair and unbelievable talent for tennis. Like any good big brother would, Geoff stopped playing to coach Pat for a while, and what do you know, he was the coach of the 1994 Manchester Open champ! Pat's career was fairly mediocre for the next 3 years. Then he announced his presence to the world in the 1997 season. This cool long-haired guy caught everybody's attention by out-working everybody in the tournament and earning his first grand slam win. Since his great win in 1997, nobody has been able to ignore Patrick, even after he had an up and down year. Pat capitalized the 1998 season by successfully defending his U.S. title after a first round
scare.
